The pc discount is coming up, and I thought lets upgrade. First of all I've noted my current settings and benchmarks so I can compare later. I want to buy a Athlon XP 3000+ CPU, but it seems that the revision of my mobo (Asus A7V333 Rev 1.x) doesn't support 333Mhz FSB, according to Asus. So that would limit my choice to the Athlon XP 2600+ 266FSB Thoroughbred, still a good deal better than my current Athlon XP 1600+ Palomino. And I really need more RAM.

Acquired a Sapphire ATI Radeon 9600 (256MB DDR), but... when I got it, it was a so called "Lite Retail" package, and no DVI to VGA dongle was included. I had to order it separately at a price of EUR 15. The card itself was EUR 128. I bought this card in the first place, because I could use both of my monitors with only one VGA (using Hydravision). Unfortunately, after installing the VGA PowerDVD didn't work properly. It got choppy when I activated both of my monitors. Later on I found out that PowerDVD 5 supports Hydravision, but my version (3) didn't.

The plan worked, the compact webpage was stable and accessible for 27 days. After that my ISP decided I've had this IP long enough... Than suddenly, at night, I could hear harddisk access, what was going on? The file root.htm was open (showed in the table of open files, after typing status), but there couldn't be incoming traffic (unfortunately, I was to sleepy to check whether the light on one of either the NIC/hub/router was blinking). Anyway, the noise was keeping me up, so I shut it down.

installed EvilEntity 0.2.5! It installed perfectly |more or less. I tried Redhat 7.2 before but it somehow didn't install correctly, leaving me without a taskbar in gnome. After this I tried Peanut 9.5 but that crashed even before it could reach the installation interface. Using EvilE I only have to configure sound (haven't tested networking, though) manually. "Modprobe sb" works fine, but putting that in /etc/rc.d/rc.sndconfig doesn't work at all.

Got a NEC ND-1100 DVD+RW burner. And a 80 GB Maxtor DiamondMax. And some silver IDE roundcable by the way, which can't even fit into my devices! Past my old 6 GB IBM harddisk to Fett.

I gave up. I discarded this project alltogether and gave away the expensive parts to a friend. Click here for a picture of calrissian.

acquired it at Super PC Discount Rotterdam for EUR 380 with pcmcia network card and shoulderbag. Came with Windows 98 pre-installed. That sucked of course, so...

Started messing around with the VMWare Workstation 3.2 demo in windows and *surpisingly* got it to work in Slackware aswell. For now, I only installed windows 3.11 to save some diskspace. It looks cool. I plan to buy a larger HD anyway, in combination with a DVD recorder.

R2D2

Hooked r2d2 up to my new hub. One step closer to a permanent webserver. I only need a way to let Dr. DOS upload my darn dynamic IP periodically, so I can access it remotely. Web (80) and FTP (21) are routed to r2d2. I plan to upload a compact version of my linkdump to it.
