Again, no image when booting, so it's not fixed. I will have to look in my "collection of hardware" (aka "heap of crap") to see if I have a spare videocard. Unfortunately, I don't have an AGP slot on this mainbord, so that narrows my choices down a lot. by Martin @ 10:11 1 April 2008
saturday 22 march i started experiencing... uhm... difficulties starting Solo. Most of the time I had no image at all, not even the POST screen or the videocard version display. Sometimes it even froze during the POST screen. During debugging it even froze inside the BIOS setup, never new that was possible. Furthermore, most of the times I *was* able to log in to Solo. Therefore I reasoned that I might be a videocard issue. I'm still not certain what it was, but having no spare videocard at hand, I tried flashing the BIOS. by Martin @ 10:10 31 March 2008
I thought "Well, it was months since Gutsy came out. All the bugs should be gone now. Let's try an distro-upgrade." Boy, was I wrong.

Today a colleague noted to me that Ubuntu doesn't load SMP by default. Could it be possible that I am not running my system at full speed yet?! That would be insain! Come to think of it, I did use the i386 kernel (because I had it laying around (yes, I am very lazy)), and my current /proc/cpuinfo contains only 1 cpu. by Martin @ 12:56 25 September 2006
everything runs pretty fine, but I just found out that wine (specifically World of Warcraft) can't use the sound device at the same time as skype. After some googling I found that in linux, any program gets exclusive access to the soundcard. A workaround can be found in this tutorial. Now, if I start skype with 'aoss skype' and WoW with 'aoss wine Wow.exe -opengl', and configure the sound in winecfg to use the EsounD driver, I can run both at the same time. by Martin @ 12:14 24 September 2006
Finally my revenge! I've upgraded totally, this is my shopping list:
- Intel Core 2 Duo E 6600
- Asus P5W DH Deluxe motherboard
- Asus Nvidia 7600 GS Top Silent 512 MB
- 2x 1 GB of G.E.I.L. PC-6400 DDR2
- Coolermaster CM Stacker 830
Also decided that this new system will not feel the pain of Winblows. Installed Ubuntu instead, it was quite a breeze.
